Fraternal Cooperation
- Moscow and Beijing became closer during Cold War because they both were communist and hated the US. This allowed for a stronger bond, since they both are sharing a common enemy.
- Hatred toward the US is seen in American rehabilitation programs in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. This was the primary reason for their relationship to grow stronger.
- In the Chine- Soviet partnership, Beijing recognized Moscow as ruler of communist, in return for weapons. This allowed China to get stronger, which can be seen today as seen by Chinese military
- In return, soviets issued a campaign in UN to give the Chinese seat in Security Counsel in Taiwan to Mainland. This allowed China to have more power in its territory
Cracks in Alliance
- Tension began when Soviets began to lecture China on how to make a socialist society. This shows how the Chinese government doesn't like the socialist style, because of how strong of a communist they are
- Chinese also said Soviet programs are modest, in particular to Soviet demand for territorial concession. For example Soviets demanded Chinese to sign a treaty of Friendship. This reminded the Chinese of European "Unequal Treaties" in 19th century, and they hated it.
- In the treaty, soviets gained more naval privileges in Port Arthur, that provided Chinese with less economic assistance. This was one of the main reasons for the split between these two communist states
- In 1964, rift became stronger. Chinese viewed Soviets as revisionist because of Soviets peaceful coexistence with US.Soviets called Chinese left-wing adventurist to show war with capitalism
