Criticism of Stalin
- The first communist opposition group came from Yugoslavia.
- Without the assistance of the Soviet Union a Yugoslavian communist regime came to power.
- Within this group, Josip Broz also known as Marshal Tito came to power.
- Tito resisted Soviet Union control which led to a major split from Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.
- Stalin later expelled Yugoslavia from the "bloc" or combination of countries.
- Under Tito's reign, Yugoslavia gained its independence from the Soviet Union.
Criticism of Stalin
- Tito aimed to maintain a good relationship with Eastern European communist states.
- After Stalin died, many communist leaders publicly criticized his tactics and questioned his thought process.
- Stalin's biggest critic was his successor Nikita Khrushchev who went off during a secret speech at the Twentieth Party Congress.
- This prompter Khrushchev to start a policy tagged "de-Stalinization"
- The De-Stalinization hindered government control letting out millions of political problems.
- After he was released from prison, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn published a book called "One Day in the life of Ivan Denisovich"
- The book was centered around the experiences in a Siberian labor camp.
- The Soviets later took back over.
